paint a simple scene
pleasing to the eye, ear, mind
tiny brush, few strokes
Those are good basic instructions. One of the hard things about writing haiku is to write about that moment — the haiku moment — and not pack it with too many images. “Tiny brush, few strokes” is right on target.
